Are you a mom-to-be preparing for an upcoming stay in the hospital or birth center? Nearing the end of pregnancy brings about new exhilarating and nerve wrecking troubles, including packing the hospital bag . I am at the stage in my first pregnancy where it’s time to start getting items together. The thought of forgetting to pack something important or not packing enough is enough to send you into a state of panic. While searching for a checklist of items to pack, I came across a multitude of lists, but none for the crunchy momma.
Here are a few crunchy ideas for your hospital bag :
1. Pads– The crunchy momma may not be comfortable packing popular brands of pads or using the pads the hospital provides. A great alternative brand for the crunchy momma to pack would be Natracare’s Natural New Mother Pads. These pads are not only extra soft and extra long, but they’re also perfume/plastic free and made of natural materials. Some crunchy mommas may also choose to pack mama cloth, cloth pads, instead of these natural disposable ones.
2. Essential Oils– Use of essential oils during labor has many benefits. They not only help relieve pain, but they can also help to relax you and provide you with an energy boost. A few essential oils that are beneficial during labor are lavender, orange, and peppermint essential oils. Lavender essential oil can be used to help relieve pain and promote relaxation. Orange essential oil may help you when you need a little energy boost. Finally, peppermint essential oil can be used to help relieve nausea during labor. To use any of these essential oils during labor dab a little on either a wash cloth or cotton ball and inhale, smell.
3. Coconut Water– During labor, it is important to keep well hydrated. Coconut water is super hydrating and is great for staying hydrated during labor. It is also a natural alternative to sports drinks like Gatorade and does not have the artificial colors, chemical additives, and sweeteners.
4. Mothers Milk Tea– Mother’s Milk Tea is full of ingredients that help with milk supply.
5. Lactation Cookies– Great snack for after baby is born and also helps with milk supply. Just 1 cookie a day can increase your supply, but, let’s be honest, who can limit themselves to 1 cookie a day?
6. Olive Oil– For coating baby’s bottom before putting on his/her first diaper. This helps with wiping meconium, baby’s first poop, and prevents this ever-so-sticky tar-like substance from sticking to baby’s bottom. It also doubles as a moisturizer.
